Host/ Host family

What is a Host/Host Family A host or host family is an individual or family ideally from the neighbourhood or community who has expressed an interest in getting to know a child or youth with a disability.  The Coordinator’s role is to recruit, connect and support the relationship between a host / host family and an individual with a disability and their family.  The frequency, in which people get together, depends on everyone involved. Why have a Host/Host Family connection Host relationships have the potential to provide typical experiences, create mutual friendship, provide a safe social network and provide respite that friendships have the potential to create.  So often whereas society tends to see the disability, in a host or friendship relationship, one sees the person and his or her strengths.
